Coastal Elevated Pool and Spa Design

The Rye pool and spa were designed to feel completely at home in the backyard, blending effortlessly into the coastal landscape and the established Moonah trees.

A 6×3m rectangular pool design sits alongside a slightly elevated 3×2m spa, creating a gentle waterfall effect between the two bodies of water. This elevation of both the pool and spa above natural ground level also helped minimise the need for pool fencing, allowing the space to feel open and uninhibited - the kind of freedom in nature that defines coastal living.

Full‑width bench seats run the length of the pool, creating a relaxed vantage point to take in the surrounding Moonah canopy. Project Green Design described the feeling well — the luxury of swimming amongst the trees. Their landscaping and deck work complement the pool and spa design, with a floating hardwood deck linking the zone to the upper levels of the block, a layout typical of Rye and consistent with other Albatross Pools projects across the area. The landscaping integrates the pool and spa with the established vegetation, allowing the space to feel grounded, natural and genuinely connected to its coastal setting.

Both the pool and spa feature a crisp white pool interior that gives the water a coastal, luminous look, while black metal cladding, matching the home, anchors the design and ties the new structure into the architecture.

Although the finished project feels calm, the site itself was challenging. With over 50 years in the industry, the Albatross Pools team is well equipped to work with unstable ground conditions, sloping coastal blocks and sites shaped by native vegetation, making this Rye project a familiar challenge. Extra steel reinforcement and a strengthened bond beam were required to secure the pool and spa, and the flexibility of our pre‑engineered steel pool system allowed the team to adapt confidently to the conditions and deliver the design as intended.

The result is a coastal elevated pool and spa that sits comfortably within the environment, shaped by practical design, considered landscaping and engineering that works with the existing landscape.
