  • Courtyard Pools for Small Backyards

No two backyards are the same, and neither are the pools that go into them. Albatross Pools has been building small, custom courtyard swimming pools since 1969, designed for backyards where a full-size pool won't fit. Every pool in the Courtyard Series comes in one of three pre-engineered steel sizes, backed by a ten-year warranty on Australian-made Bluescope Z720 steel. Walk through a full-size display pool at our Dandenong or Warrandyte showroom before you decide on anything.

    Small Pools for Small Backyards

A small backyard doesn't mean giving up on having your own pool. The Courtyard Series is built for side yards, narrow blocks and courtyards where a full-size pool won't fit. Every pool is custom built to your space rather than picked off a shortlist of set shapes, so the design starts with your block, not a catalogue.

The Courtyard Series includes three rectangular pools, the Petite, the Classique and the Grande, each featuring a step and comfort seat in the shallows. Alternate seat designs are available, along with a wide range of colours and enhancement options including CleanAssist, Ionic Fresh Water Purification, Swim Jets, heating systems and more.

    What Is a Courtyard Pool?

A courtyard pool is a small, custom-built pool designed to make the most of a limited outdoor space, usually holding less than 20,000 litres. It's a plunge pool with room to move, enough space to swim, cool off or entertain, sized to fit a courtyard, side yard or narrow block a standard pool never could. Because it holds less water, it's also cheaper to run and quicker to heat, and you can use it year-round.

    Courtyard Series Pool Sizes

    1. The Petite             Pool Length: 4.0m      Pool Width: 2.0m
    2. The Classique      Pool Length: 5.0m      Pool Width: 2.5m
    3. The Grande          Pool Length: 5.5m      Pool Width: 2.75m

Please note: the measurements listed are internal pool shell measurements.

How to Customise your Courtyard Series Pool

Although the Courtyard Series has three set sizes, like every pool Albatross builds, it can be completely customised to suit your exact space and lifestyle requirements.

    Choose your Pool's Entry Design

Each Courtyard Series pool features a classically designed step and comfort seat spanning the full width of the pool, easily accommodating your family and friends. The seating area incorporates a unique gently padded underlining laminate (exclusive to Albatross Pools) providing a cushioned effect - the kids will absolutely love it (and you will too)! Alternate seat designs and wraparound comfort seat designs are available.

    Select your Favourite Pool Colour

A Courtyard Series pool features a sanitised waterproof Aqualux PVC membrane that is both satin smooth and non-slip. Whilst soft to touch, it remains an extremely tough pool interior requiring virtually no maintenance and cannot chip, peel, crack, separate, leech chemicals or blister-like some other pool interiors. Aqualux is available in a multitude of colours from ocean resort-style blues through to modern patterns and metallic designs. Choose to make a bold statement with a dark colour or opt for a lighter colour and your pool will blend into its natural courtyard surrounds.

Add Enhancement Options to Your Lifestyle

You have now chosen your pool size, comfort seat design and pool interior colour. Adding your chosen enhancement options is the next and final step in customising your Courtyard Series pool. Your budget, desired lifestyle and how you intend to entertain family and friends in your new outdoor space should be kept in mind when considering each Courtyard Series pool enhancement option.

    Choose from:

    • Upgrade from a standard pool pump to an Energy Efficient Pool Pump
    • Switch to an Ionic Fresh Water Purification System as a chemical-free alternative to chlorinated pool water
    • Add a Robotic Pool Cleaner or CleanAssist for a pool that needs very little upkeep
    • Set the mood with an underwater LED light, available in single colour and multi-coloured options
    • Heat your pool cost-effectively with solar, gas or electric pool heating, and reduce heat loss with a pool cover
    • Get a low-impact, full-body workout without leaving your small pool with a powerful Swim Jet System
    • Turn your comfort seat into a spa with an alternate jet enhancement, choosing Standard Spa Jets or Turbo Power Jets with a spa blower

Small Backyard Pool Ideas: See the Courtyard Series in Person

The best way to know if a courtyard pool will work for your backyard is to stand next to one. You're welcome to visit the Classique display pool at our Dandenong or Warrandyte display centres, both fully landscaped so you can see exactly how a small pool design comes together in a real backyard setting. The Classique is one of five pools on display at Dandenong and one of six pools on display at Warrandyte. Both display centres list their current trading hours online, so it's worth checking before you visit.

Alternatively, start your Courtyard Series pool project today and a member of our team will work with you to customise your small dream pool to best suit your space and lifestyle.

Why Choose Albatross Pools for Your Small Backyard Pool

A courtyard pool might be small, but building one still means trusting a builder with your backyard, your budget and years of use. Albatross Pools has been designing and building small pools since 1969, and every Courtyard Series pool is still built the same way: custom, pre-engineered and backed by an Australian-made steel system with a ten-year warranty.

    • 50+ years of pool building experience in Victoria
    • Custom pre-engineered steel construction, built to your specific block and budget
    • Australian Made and Australian Owned
    • MPBAA and SPASA Award-winning display centres
    • Walk-in display pools at Dandenong and Warrandyte, no appointment needed

Because every Courtyard Series pool is custom built rather than a fixed fibreglass shell, you get more flexibility over depth, entry design and finish, even on a compact block.

    FAQs

    What is a courtyard pool?

A courtyard pool is a plunge pool custom designed to maximise the limited area available in small outdoor spaces. Most courtyard pools hold less than 20,000 litres, which makes them more affordable to run and easy to use all year round.

How long does a steel inground pool last?

Albatross Pools uses Australian-made Bluescope Z720 steel, designed and engineered specifically for its application, backed by a ten-year warranty. Our original display pools, built in 1969 and 1979, are still standing today as proof of how long a well-built steel pool lasts.

What pool sizes are available in the Courtyard Series?

The Courtyard Series comes in three set sizes: the Petite (4.0m x 2.0m), the Classique (5.0m x 2.5m) and the Grande (5.5m x 2.75m). Because an Albatross pool is custom designed and built, we can also build to virtually any shape or size, from a small courtyard pool through to a lap pool over 18.0m.

How do you customise your Courtyard Series Pool?

You start by choosing one of the three Courtyard Series sizes, then customise your entry design, pool interior colour and enhancement options like heating, lighting and jet systems to suit your lifestyle. If your space calls for something outside the standard dimensions, Albatross can custom fabricate your pool to fit.

How much does a small backyard pool cost?

The cost of a courtyard pool depends on its size, the finishes you choose and your site conditions, so we don’t publish a fixed price list. The best way to get an accurate figure is to visit one of our display centres or start a pool enquiry, where a member of our team can talk through your backyard and your budget.

What's the difference between a courtyard pool and a plunge pool?

Courtyard pool and plunge pool are often used to describe the same thing: a small, custom pool built for a compact outdoor space. The main difference is that an Albatross courtyard pool is a custom-built, pre-engineered steel pool rather than a fixed-size prefabricated shell, so it can be shaped, sized and fitted to your exact backyard.

Can a courtyard pool be customised for an awkward or narrow backyard?

Yes. Because every Albatross pool is custom designed rather than poured from a fixed mould, our Courtyard Series can be adapted to narrow side yards, oddly shaped blocks and other awkward spaces that a standard pool size won’t fit. Talk to our team about your backyard and we’ll work out what’s possible.
