Sandhurst Pool Project
Freeform Pool Design
This custom freeform pool design in Sandhurst is a beautifully resolved example of tailored pool design for a challenging Melbourne site. Created to suit a uniquely shaped backyard, the pool measures 5.2m x 4.0m x 4.3m with depths from 1.0m to 1.8m, delivering a generous swimming zone that feels perfectly at home within the landscape.
The project required thoughtful planning from the outset. The site presented several constraints, including a high water table near Sandhurst Lake, a restrictive easement, and an existing stormwater pit. Access was limited to the garage and a rear roller door. These conditions were successfully navigated thanks to the flexibility of Albatross Pools’ pre‑engineered inground steel pool construction, which allowed the team to work confidently within tight access, adapt to ground conditions, and shape the pool precisely to the space.
A standout feature of this design is the custom wraparound step entry. Three wide 400mm steps at 270mm increments create a spacious lounging and play zone, ideal for families and relaxed soaking. Six integrated spa jets add a luxurious touch, transforming the step area into a built‑in hydrotherapy-type nook.
The Kiama pool colour enhances the organic curves of the freeform shape. Its soft, stone‑toned finish pairs beautifully with natural paving, lush foliage, and perforated black fencing, creating a calm, cohesive aesthetic that settles effortlessly into the backyard.
This Sandhurst project highlights how clever engineering, creative thinking, and a personalised approach can turn a complex Melbourne site into a seamless, inviting outdoor retreat. Every element - from the pool shape to the step layout and colour selection - was tailored to suit the space, the conditions, and the lifestyle of the family who calls it home.
