Freeform Pool Design

This custom pool design in Sandhurst is a stunning example of how thoughtful pool design can transform a tricky space into a seamless backyard retreat. Measuring 5.2m x 4.0m x 4.3m with depths from 1.0m to 1.8m, the freeform pool shape was created specifically to suit the client's uniquely shaped backyard and desire for something beyond a standard off-the-shelf swimming pool.

With site challenges including a high water table near Sandhurst Lake, a restrictive easement, and an onsite stormwater pit, careful planning was essential. Access was through the garage and out a rear roller door, which allowed for a decent run and helped keep the construction process efficient despite the site constraints.

A key highlight of this swimming pool is its custom wraparound step design—three generous 400mm steps at 270mm increments—ideal for relaxing, playing, or simply cooling off. Six spa jets have been integrated into the step area, offering a touch of luxury and a spot to unwind.

The Kiama pool colour was chosen to enhance the natural feel of the freeform shape. Its soft, stone-toned finish creates a timeless contrast against the light, natural-toned paving and lush green foliage, while also complementing the perforated black pool fencing. The result is a pool that feels both considered and cohesive, sitting effortlessly within the surrounding landscape.

This project is a great example of how creative thinking, smart design, and a personalised approach can result in a beautifully integrated swimming pool that suits both the space and the lifestyle of its owners.
