Warrandyte North Pool Project
Award Winning Freeform Pool Design
A dated deck area featuring a portable spa has been transformed into a highly entertaining space complete an elevated freeform pool in Warrandyte North.
Originally purchased due to the outlook down to the Yarra River and out over Warrandyte, the property is typical of North Warrandyte with the rear third unusable due to the fall of the land. Although the existing multi levelled decking provided some form of entertainment, there was a great deal of unutilised space, a lack of connection between the indoor and outdoor living areas and little emphasis placed on the surrounding bushland vista.
The clients engaged landscape designer, Anthony Scott to create a space which would utilise the entire upper bank of the property, deliver multiple living zones, provide year-round entertainment and connect the residence with the borrowed surrounding bushland. This design was to include an elevated swimming pool in a freeform shape to soften the angular lines of the residence and the deck.
After collaborating with Anthony Scott, Parkview Landscaping & Construction and Albatross Pools the clients are now spoilt for choice when they step out into their newly renovated outdoor space. Whether they choose to entertain family and friends under the alfresco (complete with outdoor kitchen, dining area, sitting area, fireplace and tv), cool off in their elevated natural lagoon-like swimming pool or are wanting to keep warm around their fire pit alongside the pizza oven – they will not be disappointed.
Standing 1.2m above natural ground, the freeform pool design features three waves closest to the residence and custom designed fluid step and bench configuration internally to suit. One corner wave of the pool is particularly deep and features a ledge, a series of spa jets and blower, creating the illusion of a natural deep spring in the bush – a rather tranquil and intimate space within the pool.
Antique, the black pebble-like pool interior, adds to the natural lagoon feel, creating a natural water colour complementing the surrounding bluestone and large format timber decking. Natural timber, grey tones and raw steel elements feature throughout the entire outdoor space to achieve the desired connection with the surrounding bushland.
